Insurer launches PRUCare Cancer Protect: affordable cover vs cancer costs

Pru Life UK has introduced PRUCare Cancer Protect, a 10-year renewable term insurance plan aimed at making cancer coverage easier to access, amid rising health and financial risks faced by Filipino families.

Cancer remains among the top three causes of death in the country, with an estimated 150,000 to 190,000 new cases reported yearly. Over 40% of households dealing with the illness face severe financial strain, and many are forced to stop treatment due to costs.

The plan covers both early and late-stage cancer: eligible late-stage claims pay up to 100 percent of the assured sum, while early-stage claims provide 50 percent. Any amount paid for early-stage cases will be deducted from future late-stage benefits. An extra 20 percent payout applies for catastrophic late-stage cancer.

Policyholders who complete the 10-year term without making a successful claim may get back up to 50 percent of total premiums paid. Underwriting is simplified and focused only on cancer-related risks. Renewals every decade do not require new health checks or eligibility reviews. The product is suited for young workers, primary earners, and families seeking low-cost, straightforward protection.

“Aside from building wealth, financial security means safeguarding what matters most when difficulties come,” said Garen Dee, Pru Life UK chief product officer. “Cancer is one of the biggest health and financial threats for Filipinos. This plan offers meaningful protection that is simple, flexible, and affordable — helping people face the future with confidence.”

The launch event, themed “Count on Care, Count on PRUtection”, included patient stories and expert discussions. Guests received free non-communicable disease risk screenings arranged with partner The Medical City.

Through this partnership, customers also get added benefits: discounts on selected preventive outpatient tests and inpatient services for critical illnesses including cancer, free non-communicable disease risk assessments, and priority scheduling support for appointments and procedures.

“With healthcare expenses going up, planning ahead is essential,” Dee added. “We want Filipinos to take steps to protect themselves and their families. Proper coverage lets people focus on getting better instead of worrying about bills.”

The launch supports Pru Life UK’s goal to make protection more relevant, accessible, and responsive to community needs. For details on PRUCare Cancer Protect and other insurance solutions, visit any Pru Life UK branch or consult a licensed financial adviser.
