Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have renewed their shared commitment to stop electricity theft and the illegal taking of power distribution facilities and materials.
Representatives from both sides recently met to step up joint actions under their ongoing partnership. Those present were PCOL Joseph Adelbert A. Aliño, PCOL Laudemer N. Llaneta, PBGEN Manuel J. Abrugena; MERALCO Senior Vice President and Head of Networks Froilan J. Savet, Revenue Assurance and Metering Services Head Marvin G. Gonsalves, and Central Distribution Services Head Jason B. Calsas.
The two parties will improve coordination to prevent and respond to theft of power facilities and equipment such as meters and wires. Aside from enforcement work, they are also looking at providing technical training to PNP electrical engineers and electricians to help them better handle cases related to power infrastructure.
Savet noted the company is working hard to stop theft of power materials, as part of efforts to lower non-technical system losses and keep the distribution network reliable. For its part, the PNP thanked MERALCO for its continued technical help in keeping power supply facilities at police camps well-maintained.
As a partner in national development, MERALCO works with law enforcement agencies to protect public safety, and ensure stable and reliable power service.
