The Department of Energy (DOE) is partnering closely with the BARMM Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE) to strengthen energy security, expand access, and develop local resources.
Through the Intergovernmental Energy Board, both sides are speeding up a joint circular for shared management of Sulu Sea Petroleum Service Contracts 80 and 81, and drafting rules to support native hydrogen development. They are also advancing the proposed BARMM Energy Code, a unified electrification roadmap for remote areas including the Turtle Islands, and phased transfer of energy functions to build MENRE’s capacity.
