French tire maker Michelin is seeing strong growth opportunities in the Philippines as evolving mobility patterns and more discerning consumers drive demand for safer, more innovative, and sustainable transport solutions.
Antonio Mello, vice president for Michelin Asia Pacific Mining and a member of its regional leadership team, said the Philippines remains an important market in the company’s expanding Asia-Pacific network.
“What makes me particularly optimistic is that markets like the Philippines continue to show strong growth potential as mobility evolves and consumers become increasingly discerning,” Mello said at a Michelin distributor event on Monday.
“We see tremendous opportunities to bring more value, more innovation, and more premium experience to our customers,” he added.
Michelin operates 11 commercial offices and eight industrial sites across Asia Pacific, supported by about 6,000 employees from 41 nationalities across eight country clusters.
Mello said the company’s optimism comes as Michelin broadens its business beyond tires and traditional mobility into advanced materials, sustainable technologies, and new consumer experiences.
The 137-year-old French company is also making sustainability a core part of its growth strategy. It aims to manufacture tires using 100 percent renewable or recycled materials by 2050 while cutting emissions, improving energy efficiency, and increasing the use of sustainable materials.
“As we look ahead, we remain optimistic, optimistic about the future of mobility, optimistic about the future of the Philippines, and optimistic about the opportunities we can create together,” Mello said.
He said innovation will remain central as mobility changes rapidly.
“We will continue to innovate. We will continue to invest in people, and we will continue to create sustainable value,” he said.
Michelin’s Philippine presence dates to the 1980s, when it began through tire distribution partnerships. The company established local factory operations in 1996 and later opened a branch office supported by a nationwide network of importers, dealers, and partners.
Its local footprint has since expanded across vehicle segments, including a move to a new Alabang office in 2025 and the arrival of the Michelin Guide in the Philippines.
Founded in France in 1889, Michelin employs more than 122,000 people globally, including 6,000 research and development professionals, providing a deep technology base as it targets emerging mobility markets such as the Philippines.
