Listed PhilWeb Corp. (PSE: WEB) has elected Lance Y. Gokongwei as chairman of its board, completing a governance overhaul following his P2.02 billion strategic investment in the company and appointment as a director in July.
The leadership change comes as PhilWeb shifts from strengthening its capitalization to executing an online-led, business-to-business technology strategy centered on artificial intelligence.
Gokongwei said the company plans to deploy AI-powered infrastructure designed to raise security and compliance standards across the regulated digital ecosystem.
The technology roadmap includes real-time operational monitoring, algorithmic risk management, automated regulatory compliance, anti-fraud systems, and data-driven customer lifecycle management.
PhilWeb President Brian Ng said Gokongwei’s appointment provides the governance and strategic oversight needed as the company expands its technology infrastructure.
He said the AI systems are being developed to support the backend requirements of integrated casino resorts and global platform providers, with an emphasis on disciplined capital deployment.
PhilWeb is positioning its technology platform as infrastructure for the regulated digital gaming sector, with its systems currently serving a network of integrated casino resorts and licensed operators.
Its ecosystem includes Okada Manila, Hann Casino, Newport World Resorts, NUSTAR Resort and Casino, FBM Philippines, and PT Gaming.
The company is also integrating global content providers, including Pragmatic Play and Games Global, into its digital infrastructure as it expands its business-to-business offering.
The move gives PhilWeb a broader technology role beyond its traditional gaming operations, as demand grows for digital systems that can manage compliance, security, fraud prevention, and operational data across increasingly complex regulated platforms.
With Gokongwei now leading the board, PhilWeb enters its next phase with a focus on scaling its AI capabilities and expanding its B2B technology footprint.
