Taiwan Expo eyes deeper Philippine partnerships after deals

Taiwan Expo returns to the Philippines on Sept. 17 to 19, aiming to turn last year’s $53.4 million in business opportunities into deeper partnerships spanning technology, energy, agriculture, healthcare, and consumer products.

More than 125 Taiwanese exhibitors will gather at the SMX Convention Center Manila for the three-day event, following a 2025 edition that drew more than 10,000 buyers.

Organized by Taiwan’s International Trade Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the expo brings exhibitors together under Taiwan’s “National Team” banner.

“Fifty-three million dollars in business opportunities showed us how much appetite there is in this market,” TAITRA Chairman James C.F. Huang said.

“This year, we want to build on that through joint ventures, licensing, and local assembly, so Taiwanese and Philippine companies are building together rather than simply trading,” Huang added.

The push comes as commercial ties between the two economies continue to expand. Taiwan and the Philippines recorded $6.71 billion in merchandise trade in 2024, while bilateral trade grew 8.5 percent in the first seven months of 2025, lifting Taiwan to the Philippines’ 10th-largest trading partner from 11th previously.

This year’s expo will spotlight technologies aimed at some of the Philippines’ most persistent challenges.

The Green and Innovation Showcase will feature battery energy storage systems and hydrogen microgrids suited for islands and off-grid communities, alongside green building insulation and artificial intelligence-powered waste-sorting systems.

Agriculture will also get a technology upgrade. The Agritech and Food Pavilion will showcase autonomous mobile robots and smart environmental controls designed to address labor and productivity constraints in farming and livestock operations.

The Intelligent Technology Pavilion will feature artificial intelligence of things, edge computing, collaborative robots, forklift safety systems, and zero-trust cybersecurity solutions.

Beauty and wellness, meanwhile, will showcase biotechnology-based skincare, medical devices, anti-counterfeiting packaging, and sterile surgical supplies.

For Huang, however, the real measure of success will come after the exhibition halls empty.

TAITRA will be watching whether the connections made this year grow into partnerships that continue creating value for Taiwanese and Philippine businesses over the next five years.
