Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI Yohei concluded a day of key diplomatic and business talks in the Philippines today, marking a significant step forward in bilateral cooperation across multiple critical sectors.
During his visit, Onishi met with Philippine Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Policy Leo Herrera-Lim to exchange views on shared priorities. The Japanese side emphasized strong support for the steady progress toward the formal establishment of the Bangsamoro Government, reaffirming Japan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region. Discussions also focused on deepening long-term cooperation in security, maritime affairs, economic partnership, and people-to-people exchanges—areas central to strengthening the strategic relationship between both nations.
Undersecretary Lim echoed the commitment, saying the Philippines intends to expand collaboration in all discussed fields and will continue working closely with Japan to achieve lasting peace in Mindanao.
Beyond diplomatic engagements, Onishi met with Japanese business representatives based in Manila to discuss the current operating environment, market conditions, and challenges facing Japanese investors and enterprises in the country. The dialogue aims to support sustainable business ties and strengthen the economic foundation of Japan-Philippines relations.
The visit underscores Japan’s continued diplomatic focus on the Philippines as a key regional partner, aligning peace-building efforts with practical economic and security cooperation.
