Medical center teams up with Singapore partners to boost geriatric care in Southern Luzon

The Mary Mediatrix Medical Center (MMMC) has forged a partnership with Inspire Healthcare Singapore and the Singapore Nurses Association (SNA) to advance its Geriatric Unit, as the hospital moves to address the rising healthcare demand from older adults across Southern Luzon.

The collaboration is designed to upgrade MMMC’s capacity for elderly‑focused care through specialized staff training, knowledge sharing, and adoption of internationally recognized standards. Beyond building physical facilities, the initiative prioritizes upskilling medical personnel, improving care delivery workflows, and laying groundwork for sustainable, patient‑centered geriatric services.

“For Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, this partnership is more than the establishment of a new unit. It is about building a stronger system of care for our older adults by investing in our people, strengthening our capabilities, and learning from international best practices,” said Dr. Artemio Cabrera Salvador, MMMC Chief Operating Officer.

With the Philippine population aging rapidly, the alliance with Inspire Healthcare will also look at enhancing nutritional support as part of a broader, multidisciplinary strategy to maintain older people’s health and well‑being.

“Good nutrition plays an important role in maintaining health and improving quality of life, particularly among older adults and individuals managing chronic conditions. Through this partnership with Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, we hope to share our experience and expertise while exploring collaborative approaches that support more comprehensive and holistic geriatric care,” stated Jasmine Goh, Group CEO of Inspire Healthcare.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Nurses Association, led by its president Samantha Ong, will provide geriatric‑focused training for MMMC nurses and other front‑line health workers. “Our role is to share with them our decades of experience and best practices in geriatric care, to help them take care of the elderly in the Philippines,” Ong said, adding that Filipino nurses are highly capable and will benefit greatly from proven international care models.

MMMC President and CEO Jose Ronaldo De Los Santos noted that developing specialized geriatric services comes at a timely moment as the country prepares for the healthcare requirements of an aging population. “We are thankful to international partners like Inspire and the Singapore Nurses Association who would be sharing their knowledge and best practices with us,” he said.

Geriatric care covers the linked medical, functional, and personal needs of older patients, using a coordinated team approach to support health, comfort, independence, dignity, and overall quality of life. For MMMC, the partnership represents a major milestone toward its long‑term goal of becoming a leading provider of comprehensive geriatric care in Southern Luzon, bringing specialized services closer to elderly patients and their families. Guided by its core principle of Alagang May Malasakit, the hospital said it will continue investing in its workforce and capabilities to deliver compassionate, quality care that honors each patient’s unique needs and dignity.
