The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said Monday it is looking into the root cause of the grid disturbance Sunday night that caused power interruptions across the Luzon grid.
The NGCP said it monitored a grid disturbance at the 500-kilovolt San Jose – Nagsaag transmission line 2 and multiple power plants in Luzon that resulted in an automatic load dropping (ALD) and power interruptions at 6:45 p.m.
ALDs deliberately remove pre-identified load lines from the grid in response to abnormal conditions to keep intact the integrity of the system.
NGCP said it fully resolved issues in all areas affected by the ALD that interrupted power in Metro Manila, Cagayan, Kalinga, Apayao, Laguna, Quezon, Batangas and Camarines Norte by 7:33 p.m.
The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said that at its franchise area alone, as many as 850,000 customers or 11 percent of its 7.72 million customer base were affected in parts of Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
