AirAsia acquiring more staff ahead of ramped up 2024 air travel

AirAsia Philippines on Monday bared expanding its workforce to augment the projected growth in domestic and international travel in 2024.

The local unit of Malaysia’s AirAsia said it is in the final round of cabin crew recruitment and of guest service assistant (GSA) as well as ramp agents.

The increase in manpower is on top of the projected hiring of 600 new staff who will join the airline in 2024 with the acquisition of additional aircraft and the reactivation of hubs and AirAsia destinations previously affected by the pandemic.

“The horizon is very clear in terms of our growth direction. Additional manpower will compensate for the expected increase in fleet size next year. Also, the sustained momentum in forward bookings continues to flourish, surpassing our 2019 figures,” Ricky Isla, AirAsia Philippines chief executive, said.

“Our guests can be assured of seamless travel during the “ber” months with our group on-time performance hitting a high 90 percent over the weekend,” he added.

Also, AirAsia Philippines’ parent company, Capital A, recently reported having drawn a five-year term loan of up to $150 million to support aircraft and engine maintenance costs and other capital requirements of the AirAsia Group.

“As a group, we are the largest Asean carrier in terms of fleet size. We also fly to 165 destinations in 25 countries worldwide. With the strong backing of our parent company, Capital A, we are bullish that we will be on the right path to market domination in 2024,” Isla said.

AirAsia Philippines flies to a total 13 domestic and 13 international destinations as of July 2023. It was officially launched as the fourth airline operations center (AOC) of the AirAsia group in 2012.
