Local solar developer eyes 700-MW portfolio by 2028

Local solar power developer Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP) targets to install up to 700 megawatts (MW) of solar energy by 2028.

The company said its pipeline projects include both utility-scale and commercial industrial solar rooftop and ground-mounted facilities.

Among its most recently completed projects include the 13.811MW roof-mounted solar facility of Merbau Corp. in Batangas City considered the largest consumer-driven solar rooftop installation in the Philippines.

“We are very bullish on the growth of solar in the country… UGEP creates efficient and sustainable power solutions for its clients. We are backed by the strong experience of our shareholders and management team,” said Ruth Yu-Owen, UGEP president and chief executive officer.

UGEP provides engineering, procurement and construction services for the operation and maintenance of commercial and industrial solar projects.

Last year, UGEP entered into joint venture with Aboitiz Power Corp. subsidiary Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables Inc. pursuing solar rooftop and ground-mounted projects for commercial and industrial consumers in the Philippines.

It owns a portfolio of at least 83 MW from 22 projects.
