Meralco energy sales  in January likely up

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said its energy sales in January this year likely grew 10 percent higher than that reported in January last year.

Ferdinand Geluz, Meralco first vice president and chief commercial officer for customer retail services, told reporters the 10 percent increase equal more than 4,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) of distributed power.

Geluz said the increase was driven by stronger performance from all segments, including residential, commercial and industrial.

“Late December and first three weeks of January is a bit warm and I think we have a relatively low base since the first quarter last year was not too good. We also have months that hit double digits (growth) previously due to combination of temperature and other factors,” Geluz added.

Meralco is set to announce its full year 2023 performance within the month.

Its consolidated energy sales in the first nine months last year rose 4.4 percent to 38,164 GWh from 36,553 GWh the year before.
