    Former Energy Secretary Camacho named chairman of Nickel Asia board

    Nickel Asia Corp. on Friday announced the appointment of Jose Isidro N. Camacho as chairman of the company, succeeding Gerard Brimo who retired from the listed nickel mining company.

    Camacho, a former energy secretary, was also appointed director of Nickel Asia along with James J.K. Hung, who was elected as independent director. Camacho presently serves as chairman of SunLife Canada (Philippines) and the University of Arts Singapore, in addition to holding senior advisory and independent director roles across various companies. 

    He has a four-decade banking career that includes stints withCredit Suisse Asia Pacific and Deutsche Bank. 

    His academic achievements include a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from De La Salle University, a master’s in business administration with a finance concentration from Harvard University, and an honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree from Eastern Asia University, Thailand, conferred in 2017.

    Hung, meantime, brings a wealth of experience in the financial and investment sectors. He currently serves as chairman of Asia Securities Global Group (Hong Kong) and ASG Inspiration Lab (Singapore). Hung has held leadership roles in various international organizations, including Asia Securities in Taiwan and Franklin Templeton Investment Fund in Luxembourg. Hung has a master’s degree in business administration with a major in Finance from Babson College in Massachusetts.
