The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center said Friday it met with GCash executives following reports of an alleged data breach involving information of customers of the mobile payments service.
CICC executive director Alexander K. Ramos said that in meeting with GCash executives at the National Cybercrime Hub in Bonifacio Global City, he emphasized the importance of a transparent assessment of the alleged data breach.
“We take the alleged data breach seriously and have asked GCash to provide information on the veracity of the contents being published or reported,” Ramos said. He further said that GCash has committed to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged leak.
GCash, a subsidiary of Globe Telecom Inc., earlier responded to social media claims of a breach in the security of its know-your-customer (KYC) data. The company said an initial investigation found no evidence of a data breach within its systems and assured customers that their funds and accounts remain secure.
Recently, Jollibee Foods Corp. also reported a cybersecurity incident involving compromised personal data across the company and its subsidiaries. The incident has been reported to the National Privacy Commission and prompted Jollibee to implement enhanced security measures against future threats.
These developments underscore the growing importance of cybersecurity vigilance and response protocols among Philippine corporations amid the increasing number of digital threats.
