TeaM Energy completes 1.3-MW solar project in Batangas

TeaM Energy Corp. retail electricity unit TeaM Philippines Energy Corp. (TPEC) has completed the installation of a 1.3-megawatt solar rooftop system for a tile manufacturing plant in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

This development, the company said, increased the renewable energy it supplies the Mariwasa Siam Ceramics Inc. (MSCI) to 4.4 MW.

“We began supplying an additional 1.3 MW of electricity to MSCI last July. This is on top of the 3.1 MW we have been generating for them since last year,” said Tristan Taghoy, TPEC president.

TPEC said the MSCI plant required the installation of 2,340 units of 550-watt peak solar panels on top of 5,702 units already in place since May last year under phase one of the project. Just like the initial phase, the expanded partnership was done under a 25-year solar supply agreement where TPEC operates and maintains the system throughout the cooperation period.

“Our partnership with MSCI will enable us to supply their plant in Batangas with clean, reliable, and cost effective energy. We are fully committed to providing energy solutions that support the growth and development of Philippine industries,” said Taghoy.

TeaM Energy is one of the largest independent power producers in the country with more than 2,000 MW of installed generating capacity in place.

It operates two coal-fired plants, including the 1,200-MW Sual plant in Pangasinan and the 735-MW Pagbilao plant in Quezon.

TeaM Energy owns 50 percent of the 420-MW Pagbilao unit 3 power project in Quezon.
