Two major renewable energy initiatives totaling P27.48 billion are set for development in Samar and Bulacan, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Gemini Wind Energy Corp. (GWEC) will invest P19.04 billion in a 304-megawatt wind farm in San Isidro and in Calbayog City in Northern Samar. This project consists of 38 wind turbine generators, each rated at 8 MW, and follows GWEC’s successful bid in round two of the Green Energy Auction Program (GEA-2). To qualify for incentives, the project must be completed by 15 December 2026.
GWEC operates as a special purpose vehicle for Vena Energy, a Singapore-based developer with a robust renewable energy portfolio across the Asia-Pacific region. Vena Energy manages six operational assets in the Philippines generating 330.80 MW of power.
Additionally, San Roque Hydropower Inc. (SRHI) plans to invest P8.44 billion in two hydro projects in Norzagaray, Bulacan: a 4 MW run-of-river project and a 160 MW pumpep power hydro project. Both projects will utilize the flow of water from the Angat Dam, with commissioning expected between July and August 2028. SRHI is an affiliate of San Miguel Global Power.
The projects underscore a commitment to renewable energy in the Philippines, aligning with government objectives to enhance the share of clean energy in the overall energy mix.
