    OceanaGold donates P2.54M for UP research

    OceanaGold (Philippines), Inc. has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing mining technology and geosciences education through a recent financial donation to the University of the Philippines.

    On 16 October, OceanaGold signed an agreement with the Geoscience Foundation, Inc., pledging P2.54 million for the purchase of critical laboratory equipment and teaching materials for geology and mining courses.

    This contribution adds to the P28.80 million total financial support the company has provided since 2014.

    Dr. Leopoldo De Silva Jr., executive director of GFI, expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the importance of such support in helping students access the advanced tools required for their studies. 

    Lawyer Joan Adaci-Cattiling, OceanaGold’s president and general manager for external affairs, highlighted the significance of the partnership.

    “Our country is rich in natural and human resources. By providing students with the right tools and training, we can unlock the full potential of these resources, helping shape a skilled workforce for the future,” she explained.

    The contributions of OceanaGold to UP have also funded various theses, dissertations, and research projects, particularly those related to its operations at the Didipio Gold-Copper mine, benefiting the academic community and advancing the mining industry’s future.
