CAAP projects up to 10% increase in December air passengers

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is forecasting a significant 7 to 10 percent increase in air travel this December, with passenger numbers expected to surpass the 2.4 million recorded during the same period last year. This surge is attributed to the festive season, a traditionally busy time for both local and international travelers.

In a statement, CAAP director general captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo emphasized the authority’s commitment to ensuring a seamless travel experience despite the peak demand. “Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year, and we’re delighted to have provided seamless travel experiences for Filipinos and international visitors. Our efforts reflect our commitment to operational excellence, even under peak demand,” Tamayo said.

The projected rise in holiday travel is the result of careful planning and proactive measures, which included enhanced collaboration with airport stakeholders. Among the improvements are faster check-ins, better baggage handling, and optimized passenger flow management.

As the New Year approaches, CAAP is staying on high alert to uphold safety and efficiency at airports, in line with the Department of Transportation’s “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2024.” With a second wave of travelers expected in the coming days, the authority is reinforcing its protocols to maintain smooth operations.

Passengers are encouraged to adhere to travel guidelines, arrive early for flights, and stay mindful of prohibited items to help ensure a hassle-free journey during the holiday rush.
