SM Retail Inc. has partnered with Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) retail electricity supply arm, MPower, to supply itsMetro Manila establishments with 100 percent renewable energy. The long-term contract, which includes SM Retail’s Pasay City headquarters, is part of the retail giant’s ongoing efforts to enhance its sustainability practices.
While the financial details and energy capacity were not disclosed, the deal underscores SM Retail’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. Luis Lava, vice president for workplace and administration at SM Retail, emphasized the company’s proactive stance: “This partnership with MPower brings us closer to our goal of powering our facilities with renewable energy under the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM).”
CREM allows large energy consumers, like SM Retail, to choose their electricity supplier, benefiting from more competitive rates and greater flexibility in energy sourcing. This market-driven approach helps businesses lower operational costs while supporting the broader transition to clean energy.
MPower’s Redel Domingo added, “This partnership positions SM Retail among our valued customers benefiting from competitively priced renewable energy, further supporting the shift to a sustainable energy future.”
