NLEX Corporation has launched a series of improvement projects aimed at maintaining the integrity and safety of its expressway network. These initiatives, funded in part by toll fees, are designed to keep the roads in top condition and prioritize safety and convenience for motorists.
Maria Theresa Wells, NLEX officer-in-charge and chief financial officer, emphasized the importance of these improvements. “Ensuring safety and convenience is essential for providing a high-quality customer experience. While our routine inspections and repairs help prevent serious road issues, our comprehensive annual maintenance program helps enhance the quality of the roads,” she said.
The ongoing maintenance includes a heavy pavement overhaul, with the Bocaue-Burol stretch already completed. Asphalt overlays are being applied to specific sections of the NLEX and SCTEX, while areas with minimal damage are being patched as needed. Additionally, the tollway company is repainting all road infrastructure, including bridge parapets, toll plaza barriers, and concrete dividers.
Road signs will be replaced by May, and toll booths are set for refurbishments. NLEX is also addressing security by restoring guardrails and fences to prevent unauthorized access to the expressway.
Retrofitting works on 42 bridges along the expressway were completed in 2024, while repairs to the Marilao River Bridge expansion joints are expected to be finished by March 2025. These efforts reflect NLEX’s commitment to ensuring a safe, efficient, and pleasant travel experience for all users of the expressway network.
