Pru Life UK scales Islamic education program, advance takaful strategy

Pru Life UK is significantly expanding its Adopt-a-Madrasah initiative in Mindanao, strengthening its market position and commercial strategy as the country’s first licensed takaful operator. The move underscores the insurer’s dual focus on inclusive financial education and long-term community resilience in Muslim-majority areas, while aligning with its Shari’ah-compliant insurance offerings.

Initially piloted in October 2024 across three Islamic schools in Davao City—impacting over 450 students and teachers—the program now targets 1,500 beneficiaries in nine madaris across Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga. The rollout is implemented in partnership with international NGO ASSIST.

The expanded curriculum introduces modules on Islamic finance and takaful education, digital literacy and fintech training for teachers, and climate and health resilience—key pillars in Pru Life UK’s sustainability agenda and business development in underserved segments.

“We are excited to bring the Adopt-a-Madrasah program to more Muslim communities in Mindanao,” said Paul Mandal, Pru Life UK senior vice president and chief legal & sustainability officer. “This is part of our sustainability implementation that seeks to deliver real-world impact and long-term resilience.”

The initiative strategically supports Pru Life UK’s corporate goal of embedding ethical finance in emerging markets while nurturing a future-ready customer base through education and digital capability building. It also complements the company’s Takaful portfolio, reinforcing its leadership in inclusive, Shari’ah-aligned insurance solutions in the country.
