President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday led the inauguration of VITRO Sta. Rosa, the Philippines’ largest and first hyperscale data center—an advanced facility poised to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and drive economic activity and investment.
Operated by VITRO Inc., the data center subsidiary of ePLDT and the digital infrastructure arm of the PLDT Group, the new facility is a $350-million purpose-built, 50-megawatt hyperscale data center located in Laguna. It is engineered to be Rated-3 certified and Rated-4 ready, featuring state-of-the-art innovations in cooling systems, power redundancy, and network diversity. With at least three fiber routes in place, it also ensures carrier neutrality and robust connectivity.
A key feature is the data center’s deployment of NVIDIA-powered Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) servers—the first of their kind in the country—underscoring the facility’s AI capabilities and positioning it as a next-generation digital infrastructure hub.
President Marcos hailed the project as a landmark step in enhancing the country’s digital competitiveness. “(W)e now have this incredible facility which makes us AI-ready and definitely in the running to compete with our neighbors and our partners all around the world. And that is a very important achievement,” he said. “There’s still work to be done, but we’re ready to do that work to become an equal player in the world of data and data processing.”
He also commended the PLDT Group for its forward-looking investment, calling VITRO Sta. Rosa “proof that the Philippines is future-ready for the digital realm.”
PLDT Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, in his welcome speech, announced plans to significantly scale up the facility’s capacity over the next three years. “We do intend to expand our data center capability, by ourselves, for up to 500 megawatts capacity. So, we pledge that to you, Mr. President. We have to be at least equal to the capacity Malaysia, and so we will do that under your government,” he said.
Pangilinan also revealed that Indonesian billionaire and PLDT investor Anthony Salim is committed to increasing his investments in the group’s data center ventures during Marcos’ administration.
With VITRO Sta. Rosa, the Philippines is making a bold move toward becoming a digital powerhouse in Southeast Asia. Pangilinan said PLDT is committed to making the Philippines the region’s data center hub.
