BOC seizes P83.7M worth of smuggled cigarettes in Bulacan warehouse

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized approximately P83.7 million worth of smuggled cigarettes from a warehouse in Bocaue, Bulacan, highlighting the agency’s commitment to combating illegal trade. The operation, led by agents from the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP), uncovered 717 master cases of assorted branded cigarettes and six trucks loaded with similar products.

The cigarettes, including brands such as Modern, TS, Tattoo, Chesterfield, and New Orleans, were found after a thorough investigation initiated by a tip-off. CIIS-MICP Director Verne Enciso confirmed that a Letter of Authority was issued following the verification of the smuggling activity. The warehouse has been sealed pending a full inventory of the goods.

Customs commissioner Bien Rubio warned smugglers that the BOC remains steadfast in its mission to prevent the entry of illegal goods, including counterfeit items and drugs. He emphasized that those caught in smuggling operations would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The operation also involved personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard-Task Force Aduana and the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit. Officials from Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc. and Japan Tobacco International have commended the BOC for its successful operation, reinforcing the significance of such efforts in protecting public safety and regulating the flow of goods into the country.
