Meralco brings energy lecture series to Mindanao students

The Meralco Power Academy (MPA), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, held its PowerConvos lecture series in Mindanao on April 15, 2026, as part of efforts to support innovation and talent development in the energy sector.

More than 1,000 engineering students from Mindanao State University-General Santos attended the event. The sessions focused on the current state of the energy industry, including grid modernization and the use of digital technologies.

MPA president and Meralco chief operating officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, an MSU alumnus, discussed the company’s initiatives to improve service reliability. He said the challenges faced in Luzon are similar to those in Mindanao, and highlighted Meralco’s use of automation, data analytics, and secure digital systems.

Meralco officials also presented programs aimed at improving customer service. Ferdinand O. Geluz said the company is adapting to changing customer needs through digital tools such as the My Meralco App, which simplifies services like billing, payments, and outage updates.

PowerConvos connects students with industry experts who share insights on trends, real-world experiences, and career opportunities in the energy field.

The event also marks continued collaboration between Meralco and MSU-GenSan, following a partnership agreement signed in June 2025 to strengthen industry-academe ties. As part of its support, MPA also donated specialized power equipment to the university.
