Aboitiz Foods aims for disciplined growth amid headwinds

Aboitiz Foods is sharpening its focus on operational resilience and disciplined expansion in 2026, as it braces for a volatile business environment, president and chief executive officer Tristan Aboitiz said.

The company’s strategy centers on efficiency and cost leadership, with Aboitiz emphasizing the need to become the lowest-cost producer of high-quality food products across its regional markets. He described 2026 as a year defined less by aggressive expansion and more by steady, deliberate progress.

“Our priority is to continue strengthening our operations while maintaining cost discipline,” Aboitiz said, noting that these efforts are expected to support long-term performance.

He underscored the importance of viewing the food and agribusiness sector through a long-term lens, describing it as an industry shaped by decade-long cycles. Despite near-term uncertainty, Aboitiz expressed confidence in the sector’s underlying strength, pointing to sustained demand drivers across Asia.

Rising populations and increasing incomes in the region are expected to fuel demand for protein and staple foods, reinforcing the company’s growth outlook over time. However, Aboitiz acknowledged that external shocks affecting regional economies will likely make 2026 a challenging year.

“There’s no doubt that 2026 will be a tricky year,” he said.

To position itself for growth, Aboitiz Foods has set aside P5.2 billion in capital expenditures, with roughly two-thirds allocated to strategic initiatives. These include expanding feed mill capacity in the Philippines, investing in automation and research and development, and growing its footprint in Singapore. The company is also advancing an integrated feed project in East Malaysia.

Meanwhile, its Good Meat business will prioritize operational improvements and efficiency gains, rather than pursuing rapid expansion, as part of a broader push to reinforce fundamentals during uncertain market conditions.
