Fisherfolk in Barangay La Huerta are getting help to better manage their income through a new financial education program led by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Parañaque city government, and BDO Foundation.
Jose Cabanza Jr., a local fisher, said earnings are unpredictable due to changing water conditions that sometimes kill mussels and reduce catch. Like many in the sector, he faces unstable daily income.
The program aims to teach fishers how to handle their finances despite these challenges. City agriculture officials said the goal is to give them practical knowledge so they can improve their lives and become more financially capable.
The initiative was formally launched at Parañaque City Hall, attended by local officials, fishing groups, and partner organizations. Speakers highlighted the importance of partnerships, practical skills, and preparedness in building financial resilience.
The central bank also praised the effort, saying it reflects cooperation between public and private sectors to support communities.
Other beneficiaries, including local vendors, expressed interest in learning proper saving methods, especially through banks, to better secure their future.
