The Visayas grid was placed under yellow alert from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday due to low power reserves caused by several plant outages.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said available capacity reached 2,684 megawatts (MW), while peak demand hit 2,512 MW as of 3:45 p.m.
NGCP reported that 20 power plants were on forced outage, while nine others were operating at reduced capacity, resulting in 833 MW of unavailable power.
Among the major contributors were outages at Therma Visayas Inc.’s Units 1 and 2, with a combined capacity of 338 MW, and Unit 3 of Panay Energy Development Corp., which has a capacity of 150 MW.
This is the third yellow alert issued in the Visayas Grid this year, following earlier alerts on January 20 and April 16.
The Luzon and Mindanao grids remained under normal conditions.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin ordered immediate action to restore affected power plants and directed the DOE Visayas Field Office to inspect facilities on forced outage.
The Department of Energy said it is closely coordinating with power companies and grid operators to restore affected units and maintain stable electricity supply.
