Vena Group has begun construction on two major renewable energy projects in Ilocos Norte, part of its 15-project pipeline, signaling another milestone in the Philippines’ drive to expand clean energy capacity and attract green investments.
The company broke ground on the P3.76-billion, 74.989-megawatt Astra Solar Power Project in Currimao on May 5 and the P20.54-billion, 416.025-megawatt peak Opus Solar Project in Paoay on May 6.
Together, the initiatives are part of Vena Energy Group’s Green Lane-certified investments, with total project costs exceeding P24 billion.
Located in Barangay Paguludan-Salindeg, Currimao, the Astra Solar Power Project spans about 52 hectares and is expected to generate roughly 142 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy annually, enough to power around 120,500 households.
The facility could cut an estimated 95,400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year, equivalent to planting more than 1.5 million trees.
The Opus Solar Project, spread across 190 hectares in Barangays Bacsil and Mumulaan, Paoay, is set to become one of the country’s largest utility-scale solar facilities.
Once operational, it is projected to meet the electricity needs of roughly 445,000 households and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 444,400 tons annually.
The Board of Investments (BOI) said both projects were facilitated through its One-Stop Action Center for Strategic Investments under the Green Lane program, which fast-tracks permits and regulatory approvals for high-impact projects under Executive Order No. 18.
