The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), together with partner Manila Water Philippine Ventures (MWPV) – Cebu, has extended water services to residents of Barangay Canamucan, Compostela, bringing clean, safe supply to around 2,000 households.
Water is drawn from the Luyang River in Carmen, delivered via MWPV-Cebu’s bulk network. The project links a 150mm pipeline from the firm’s main 700mm transmission line to MCWD’s local distribution system, adding 1.5 million liters of available water daily.
This expansion underscores strong collaboration between the two entities and local stakeholders to meet growing demand and improve service reliability. As MCWD’s bulk supplier, MWPV-Cebu provided critical infrastructure and a secure water source, aligning with its goal to boost water security across Cebu.
Community leaders and residents welcomed the development. Barangay captain Rubirosa Villaceran expressed gratitude, saying, “I am very grateful that we finally have water now… We are very happy to experience this.”
Officials including MCWD general manager John Dx Lapid, MWPV-Cebu general manager Ruby Rose Mercado, and local government representatives attended the launch.
Both affirmed plans to keep investing in infrastructure and partnerships, aiming to reach more communities and ensure sustainable water supply for the region.
The project demonstrates how public-private collaboration in water infrastructure can rapidly close access gaps, support public health, and sustain development in expanding provincial communities — a key priority for water security across the Philippines.
