ICTSI bolsters Brazil Port with smart scanner

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) is stepping up investments in Brazil’s logistics sector, with its subsidiary Tecon Suape deploying a new high-capacity container scanner designed to accelerate cargo movement, strengthen security, and enhance the competitiveness of one of northeastern Brazil’s key trade gateways.

The latest investment at the Suape Industrial Port Complex in Recife reflects ICTSI’s broader strategy of modernizing port infrastructure and improving operational efficiency amid growing demand for faster and more secure supply chains.

Tevin Suape recently installed the Linev DTP 7500LVX, a next-generation container scanner that uses high-energy X-ray technology to inspect cargo without opening containers. The system produces detailed images that enable customs authorities and terminal operators to detect irregularities more quickly while minimizing disruptions to cargo flows.

Beyond enhancing security, the technology is expected to deliver significant productivity gains. By streamlining inspection procedures and integrating directly into terminal operations, the scanner is projected to boost scanning capacity by up to 40 percent.

Tecon Suape Chief Executive Officer Thomas Jefferson de Lima said the investment forms part of the terminal’s continuing modernization program aimed at providing safer, more reliable, and higher-quality services for customers while maintaining compliance with customs and regulatory requirements.

Strategically located near the berth, the scanner has been integrated into existing operational processes, allowing smoother coordination among quay cranes, terminal tractors, shipping lines, and logistics providers. The setup is expected to improve yard traffic flow, reduce unnecessary truck movements, and shorten truck turnaround times—critical factors in improving port productivity and lowering logistics costs.

The move comes as ports worldwide increasingly invest in automation, digitalization, and advanced screening technologies to handle rising cargo volumes while meeting stricter security standards. For trade-dependent economies, faster inspections can help reduce bottlenecks and improve the reliability of supply chains.

The investment also reinforces ICTSI’s long-term commitment to Brazil, one of Latin America’s largest logistics markets. By combining security enhancements with operational efficiencies, Tecon Suape is positioning itself to capture growing cargo demand while strengthening its role as a strategic gateway for regional and international trade.

As global supply chains place a premium on speed, visibility, and resilience, investments such as the new scanner highlight how technology is becoming a key competitive differentiator in the port industry, enabling terminals to move more cargo with greater efficiency and security.
