This June, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will roll out the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program (GSSP), a new educational aid for qualified children of active GSIS members taking up Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics courses. The initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s goal to expand quality education and build a skilled, future-ready Filipino workforce.
Eligible applicants must be children of permanently employed GSIS members with Salary Grade 15 or below and updated premiums for the last three months. Nominees should be first-year college freshmen with at least 90 percent GWA in Senior High School and enrolled in approved STEM programs.
Grantees will get ₱15,000 per academic year. There are 1,000 slots nationwide; 20 percent are reserved for Indigenous Peoples, solo parents, persons with disabilities, and other special sectors. GSIS will also hold orientations for its coordinators to explain guidelines, requirements, and application steps.
GSIS president Wick Veloso stated the program aims to help members’ children achieve their dreams and become the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators who will contribute to national progress. He emphasized that education is an opportunity for every Filipino, not just a privilege, and a key to success and a better future.
