San Miguel Corp funnels 95% of 2025 revenue back into the economy

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) distributed P1.43 trillion of its P1.5 trillion total revenue in 2025 back into the Philippine economy, according to its latest Sustainability Report. That amount represents about 95 percent of what the company earned last year.

Of the total, P995 billion went to suppliers and operating expenses, supporting businesses across SMC’s nationwide supply chain and helping them sustain operations and employment. Taxes and other government payments accounted for P221 billion, contributing to public services, infrastructure, and social programs. The company also paid P153 billion to investors and shareholders, disbursed P58 billion in salaries and benefits to employees, and invested P560 million in community development programs. SMC reported P79.6 billion in core net income, which it plans to use for growth and further investments.

The significance lies in SMC’s role as one of the Philippines’ largest conglomerates, with businesses spanning food and beverage, power, fuel, infrastructure, and cement. The report positions the company as a major driver of economic activity, with its spending directly supporting jobs, local suppliers, government funding, and community initiatives. With 59,117 employees in 2025, about 64 percent of whom are based outside Metro Manila, SMC’s financial flows reach across much of the country.

Beyond financials, the report highlighted SMC’s operational footprint of 5,710 MW in total energy capacity, 225 kilometers of expressways, fuel refining capacity of 180,000 barrels per day in Bataan, and annual cement production of 17.5 million metric tons. On the environmental front, the company has planted 8.14 million trees through reforestation programs, saved 58 billion liters of water since 2017 through desalination and conservation efforts, and removed 8.95 million tons of silt and waste from major rivers under its Better Rivers PH initiative launched in 2020. For social programs, SMC reached more than 200,000 individuals through volunteer work, with 4,298 employees contributing 65,415 hours across about 600 activities. In governance, all directors and officers completed corporate governance training, the company recorded zero data breaches during the year, completed climate risk assessments across major assets, and screened nearly 200 suppliers for ESG performance.

Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said SMC’s mission goes beyond providing products and basic necessities. “Our bigger mission is to help sustain our economy and create the conditions needed to ensure more Filipinos have jobs and opportunities that can uplift and sustainably improve their lives.”
