East West Banking Corporation served as the exclusive bank partner for JCI Manila’s 5th Ten Outstanding Guro Awards (TOGA 2026), an event held at PHINMA Plaza in Makati City to honor exceptional Filipino educators whose work transforms lives and communities nationwide.
This year’s ten awardees represent dedication across different regions and fields: Leticia C. Dela Cruz, a 30-year veteran teacher from Navotas recognized for advocating student welfare; Ryan Capilitan Tura from Cagayan de Oro, who brings learning to Indigenous Peoples in remote areas through a mobile multigrade school; and Jerrypol Casil Palma from Isabela, whose innovative PATIChem teaching tool is now adopted across the country. Completing the roster are Marie Joy Jacinto of Batac, Maureen Lou A. Aragoza of Vigan, Catalina M. Canasa of Cebu, Kim D. Grapa of Dipolog, Cesar Sucdad Martin of Benguet, Gloperlyn de Guzman Chavez of Bataan, and Ma. Cristina G. Bagas of Muntinlupa, each commended for their impactful contributions to education.
“Teachers are nation builders—our country’s future is shaped daily in classrooms by educators who serve with purpose,” said EastWest CEO Jerry Ngo. Beyond recognition, the bank supports teachers through its GuroWAIS financial literacy program, launched in 2025 by EastWest Rural Bank. Developed in partnership with JCI Manila and local DepEd offices, it covers budgeting, savings and long-term planning, and has already reached hundreds of educators nationwide. Ngo noted that empowering teachers with financial skills benefits not just themselves, but also their families, students and communities. Through TOGA and GuroWAIS, EastWest remains committed to uplifting educators and strengthening Filipino communities.
