The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) has urged China Daily to remove an AI-generated video that it said portrayed the Philippines in a derogatory manner, warning that such content risks damaging goodwill and business ties between the two countries.
In a statement, FFCCCII President Victor Lim expressed “profound disappointment” over the video, saying differences over maritime and territorial issues should not be allowed to devolve into attacks that diminish the dignity of an entire nation.
“We respectfully urge that this video be taken down and removed,” Lim said, adding that legitimate disagreements between governments “should never descend into ridicule or ad hominem attacks.”
The country’s largest federation of Filipino-Chinese business organizations stressed that the relationship between the Philippines and China extends far beyond current political tensions, pointing to more than a thousand years of trade, commerce and cultural exchanges that have benefited both peoples.
The group warned that inflammatory content could undermine decades of efforts to build trust and deepen economic cooperation, particularly at a time when businesses continue to pursue investment and trade opportunities despite geopolitical headwinds.
Lim said sensitive issues are best resolved through diplomacy, mutual respect and constructive dialogue rather than material that could inflame public opinion and deepen divisions.
He also reaffirmed FFCCCII’s longstanding role in promoting stronger business, investment and cultural ties between the Philippines and China through sustained private-sector engagement.
“FFCCCII remains steadfast in promoting friendship, peace, business and investments, trade, cultural understanding, and mutually beneficial cooperation between the Philippines and China,” Lim said.
The federation called on both sides to ensure that present-day disputes do not overshadow centuries of shared history and economic partnership, arguing that respect and dialogue remain essential to preserving stable commercial relations and fostering an environment where trade and investment can continue to grow despite political differences.
