Philippine Airlines has chosen GE Aerospace to supply GEnx-1B engines for its upcoming fleet of 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, a deal that also includes purchase rights for five additional aircraft.
The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony at the Farnborough International Airshow, attended by Philippine Airlines Holdings President Lucio C. Tan III, Philippine Airlines President Richard Nuttall, and senior executives from GE Aerospace.
The flag carrier expects to receive the new Boeing 787-10 aircraft between 2031 and 2034 as part of its larger fleet modernization program. The new Dreamliners feature advanced lightweight materials and improved aerodynamics designed to cut fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to older aircraft.
GE Aerospace designed the GEnx-1B engine to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and lower operational noise for long-distance flights.
Lucio C. Tan III stated that GE Aerospace continues to be a key partner as the airline expands its international routes. He expressed confidence that the new engines will deliver the reliability and efficiency needed to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.
Mohamed Ali, President and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines & Services, noted that the selection strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two companies and highlighted the engine’s proven performance and fuel efficiency in supporting the airline’s expanding widebody fleet.
