Globe boosts data center investments amid rising digital demand

Globe Telecom is increasing its investment in data center infrastructure to meet growing demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence, streaming, gaming, and business applications.

Research and Markets estimates the Philippine data center market reached about $633 million in value in 2024. It is forecast to grow more than three times to $1.97 billion by 2030, representing an annual growth rate of over 20 percent.

This expansion goes hand in hand with rising internet use across the country. With around 97.5 million internet users in the Philippines, demand is growing for the digital infrastructure that keeps online services, applications, and businesses operational.

Globe is making a strategic investment in ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (Philippines), placing data centers alongside submarine cable systems as key parts of the country’s digital backbone. The company said the move supports the Philippine digital economy while improving system reliability and promoting responsible practices in building and running digital facilities.

“Digital infrastructure works hand in hand with today’s advanced technologies,” said Carl Cruz, president and chief executive of Globe. “It enables businesses to operate, governments to deliver services, and people to stay connected. As demand continues to grow, it’s equally important that we build this infrastructure responsibly so it creates lasting value for businesses, communities, and the country,” he added.

STT GDC Philippines noted that customers now expect more than just extra computing power from data centers. “Customers today expect more than capacity,” said Carlo Malana, president and chief executive of STT GDC Philippines. “They want infrastructure that is reliable, energy efficient, resilient, and designed to support their long-term growth,” he added.

The company said these priorities are built into how its facilities are designed and managed. At its Fairview campus, it has installed a closed-loop cooling system that recycles water within the site, reducing reliance on public water supplies while supporting high-demand computing work. Recycled steel and other low-carbon materials are also used wherever possible during construction to lower the environmental impact of its projects.
