Goldilocks switches on 1,010 kW rooftop solar in Cebu, Pangasinan to cut emissions, power costs

Goldilocks Bakeshop Inc. has inaugurated rooftop solar power facilities in Cebu and Pangasinan, marking a major step in its push for greater energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Announced in a company statement Tuesday, the two installations have a combined capacity of 1,010 kilowatt-peak (kWp) and are projected to save around 1.06 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. The 516-kWp solar photovoltaic system in Lapu-Lapu City supports operations serving outlets across the Visayas region, while the 494-kWp system at the Richbake Inc. facility in Pangasinan caters to Goldilocks stores throughout Northern Luzon.

Developed and maintained by the First Gen Group, the projects are expected to cut annual greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 716.48 metric tons. They form part of the bakeshop’s ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency, manage operating expenses, and shrink the environmental footprint of its production network.

“At Goldilocks, we recognize that responsible growth requires responsible operations. Introducing solar power to our facilities supports our efforts to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and build a more sustainable future for our business and the communities we serve,” said Jerson Uy, the company’s chief operating officer.

Marilou Plando, Goldilocks’ head of manufacturing for the Visayas, noted that tangible benefits—including both lower power costs and reduced emissions—are already being seen from generating part of the sites’ energy needs on-site. The company did not disclose the total investment for developing the two solar installations.

As the country’s largest bakeshop chain, Goldilocks operates more than 900 stores nationwide and employs nearly 4,000 people.
