The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), together with the Reinventing Bretton Woods Committee, staged the 6th International Research Fair on October 6–7, 2026, bringing together top experts and policymakers from around the world to tackle key issues shaping today’s evolving economic landscape.
Under the theme “Stability and Growth in a Reordering Global Economy: Macro-financial Policy in an Era of Structural Change,” the two-day gathering focused on how leaders can better prepare for uncertainty rather than simply forecast what lies ahead. “People think central bankers are in the business of predicting the future. Our job is to actually prepare for different futures,” BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. said during the opening, stressing that solid research is vital for crafting effective policy that works across different possible scenarios.
Assistant Governor Maria Margarita Debuque-Gonzales, who heads the BSP Research Academy, welcomed participants representing leading institutions including the University of California, Berkeley, Princeton University, the London School of Economics, the Bank for International Settlements, the European Central Bank, and the National University of Singapore, among others. Also in attendance were Monetary Board members Walter C. Wassmer, Rosalia V. De Leon, and Jose L. Querubin.
Discussions spanned critical economic and financial topics: the health of government finances, shifts in financial markets, how monetary policy works amid changing conditions, Asia’s growth prospects, the growing role of digital payments, global financial stability, and the opportunities and risks brought by new financial innovations. The event closed with a conversation led by Governor Remolona on how innovations are transforming the global financial system, including how money moves across borders.
As the flagship forum of the BSP Research Academy, the International Research Fair serves as a key platform connecting central banks, international organizations, scholars, and researchers worldwide. By sharing knowledge and fresh perspectives, the fair strengthens the foundation for sound, evidence-based policy decisions that support economic stability and sustainable growth — goals that benefit not just the Philippines, but the broader global economy.
