Filinvest Group to expand Misamis Oriental solar project

The still under construction facilities of FDC Green Energy Corp. (FDCGEC) is adding 95 percent more solar power to the soon-to-rise project at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental.

The company said it identified opportunities to maximize project output after conducting comprehensive feasibility studies increasing rated capacity of only 11.5 megawatts to 19.78 MW instead.

“We are excited to share the positive outcome of our feasibility studies, which have paved the way for the expansion of our first solar power project in Mindanao,” said Juan Eugenio Roxas, president and chief executive officer FDC Utilities Inc. and subsidiaries, including FDCGEC.

The company did not disclose the cost of the expansion that involved installing more than 34,000 monocrystalline solar panels injecting 30,450 megawatt-hours of clean energy annually into the grid.”Filinvest is actively pursuing diverse energy projects in anticipation of peak demand growing annually by 7 percent until 2040, based on the Department of Energy’s forecast. We believe in working together as a community and remain focused on supplying the energy security requirements of the communities we support,” Roxas added.

FDCGEC recently updated its land lease agreement with PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate, adding 7.2 hectares of land to the existing 11.65 hectares allotted for the project.

When completed, the project is seen reducing the equivalent 21,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from fouling the environment.

FDCGEC has secured the necessary permits and undergoing a system impact assessment at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines for the power plant expansion.
