MWSS warns of service interruptions should NWRB decide on reducing Angat water allocation

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) warned of night time interruptions in some areas in Metro Manila in April if the allocation from Angat Dam is reduced to 48 cubic meters per second from 50 CMS.

This means no water in faucets from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. or 6 a.m. , according to Patrick James Dizon, MWSS division manager overseeing the Angat-Ipo dam operations.

The prospective 12-hour service interruption will likely impact the most on elevated areas of Metro Manila although he stressed there is no decision yet on adoption.

Nevertheless, the MWSS is optimistic the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast of rainfall by May and June replenish Metro Manila water reservoirs prove accurate.

Dizon said the public is encouraged to use water wisely to help keep water at the Angat Dam below critical level.

Water concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water have said some adjustments will have to be adopted should the NWRB scale back the water allocation from Angat Dam.

National Power Corp. data as of latest show Angat Dam water elevation at 201.46 meters, still above the 180-meter normal operating level of the reservoir.
