    AirAsia aircraft delivery topping 300 in 10 years betrays sanguine airline industry outlook

    AirAsia Philippines on Tuesday reported actively recruiting more pilots to address the surge in demand to travel. 

    The budget airline said it is committed to growing its corps of professional pilots not only to address the increasing demand for travel but also provide opportunities and make dreams come true for the aspiring pilots.  

    It said the pandemic has significantly impacted job security in the industry, affecting pilots, among other persosnnel. 

    At present, AirAsia Philippines employs a corps of 138 captains and 116 first officers.

    “we maintain a positive outlook for the future, and now that travel demand is booming once again, we are  dedicated to creating avenues of opportunity for individuals passionate about aviation.”

    It recently held a mass pilot recruitment day at its Redpoint headquarters in Manila where hundreds of aspirants participated in the hiring event and where they underwent the selection process. 

    “Opportunities for pilots have been limited over recent times, especially given the challenges the airline industry has faced during the pandemic. However, we maintain a positive outlook for the future, and now that travel demand is booming once again, we are  dedicated to creating avenues of opportunity for individuals passionate about aviation,” Ricky Isla, AirAsia Philippines chief executive, said.  

    “I am certain it will not stop here. Given AirAsia’s significant order book of over 300  aircraft deliveries until 2035 under the AirAsia Aviation Group, there’s so much more to look forward to. As part of our value to ‘make a difference’ here at AirAsia, we remain dedicated to connecting people, places, and passions – striving to create an impact in the industry,” Isla added.

    In 2023, AirAsia Philippines flew more than 1.72 million guests to various international destinations. This year, it aims to double that figure and also targets to add frequencies to existing international routes to enable everyone to fly.

    AirAsia flies to a total of 12 domestic destinations and 13 international destinations as of April 2024.
