More passengers flew with AirAsia in eight months than in all of 2023

AirAsia Philippines on Thursday reported an increase in passengers flown to the resort island of Boracay since the pre-pandemic period.

The budget airline already flew 1.1 million passengers to Boracay from January to August this year alone, far more than only 1.3 million in all of 2023. The numbers, AirAsia Philippines said, ramped up in the wake of flights flown out of Clark and Cebu.

In 2019, more than 450,000 guests flew to the island on AirAsia flights. During the pandemic (2020), this figure retreated to 81,000 but recovered in 2021 with 202,000 passengers flown and much more in 2022 when this hit 610,000.

The airline flies to Boracay (Caticlan) via Manila, Clark and Cebu. Daily flights to Boracay originating from Clark International Airport are the most affordable at P641.

“There is no season required for visiting Boracay. We have seen families and groups of friends visit the island even during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. To say that Boracay is just a summer destination is already passé. Even now Boracay is a favorite destination for workation or work from home (visitors),” AirAsia Philippines communications and public affairs head and first officer Steve Dailisan, said.

“Vacation, staycation, or workation, AirAsia Philippines will continue to support our guests’ travel needs by providing the most competitive airfare to Boracay,” he added.

At present, AirAsia flies eight times daily from NAIA Terminal 2 to Boracay. For those who like side trips before visiting the island, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline offers thrice daily flights to Kalibo.

Daily flights to the island from Central Visayas is also available from Mactan, Cebu

AirAsia Philippines flies to 12 domestic destinations and 13 international destinations as of April this year.
