The Department of Energy (DOE) said 24 off-grid power firms were downed by Tropical Storm (TS) Enteng as of 12 noon Monday.
According to the DOE, the National Power Corp. (NPC) reported 15 diesel power plants (DPPs) were on standby and waiting for clearance from the distribution utilities to re-energize the distribution lines.
The NPC also said seven DPPs and a power barge are operational with the ongoing line clearing/line restoration activities. One other DPP had been shut down.
The DOE said none of the on-grid power generation plants were affected by TS Enteng.
As for the National Electrification Administration, only four electric cooperatives (EC) reported partial power interruptions due the weather disturbance but are now undergoing restoration efforts, including the Quezon I EC; First Laguna EC; Camarines Norte EC; and Northern Samar EC.
The cited ECs serve combined consumer connections totaling 202,235.
The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) reported 28,000 or less than a percent of its customer base as having been impacted by service interruptions as of 12 noon Monday,
The power distributor said most were in Metro Manila and Cavite and the rest in parts of Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Batangas and Quezon province.
“Our crews are working to restore power service in affected areas. We continue to monitor the situation and urge our customers to practice electrical safety,” Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications, said.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) also said all its transmission assets operate under normal conditions.
The country’s bulk oil facilities are all operational and only the retailer Petro Gazz in Caloocan City was forced to shut down due to flooding, the DOE said.
