The Department of Energy (DOE) on Tuesday said at least eight off-grid power companies remain closed due to Tropical Storm Enteng.
The DOE quoted a National Power Corp. (NPC) report saying four diesel power plants (DPPs) are on standby and awaiting clearance from their distribution utilities to energize the lines. Another four DPPs reported ongoing line clearing and line restoration activities.
More importantly, the DO reported none of the on-grid power generation plants were shut down by TS Enteng.
But the National Electrification Administration (NEA) cited 10 electric cooperatives (EC) reporting partial power interruptions due to the typhoon but now undergoing restoration efforts.
The electric cooperatives include the Ilocos Sur EC; Ilocos Norte EC; Abra EC; Mountain Province EC; First Laguna EC; Quezon I EC; Camarines Norte EC; Camarines Sur I EC; Samar I EC; and Northern Samar EC.
In Luzon, the Manila Electric Co. said only 4,000 customers reported service interruptions as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, mostly customers in flooded areas of Metro Manila, Cavite and Rizal.
“With majority of the remaining customers in areas still affected by floods, we would like to ask for their patience and understanding as we have to follow protocols and prioritize their safety. Rest assured that our crews and personnel are working round the clock to restore electricity service to all remaining affected customers at the soonest possible time,” said Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines also said its transmission lines and facilities all operate as usual.
Also, the DOE reported uninterrupted bulk oil supply across the country’s oil facilities.
