Businessman Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group Inc. is rushing the development of hotel rooms to more than 12,000 by 2029, a year ahead of the target date of 2030.
Kevin Andrew L. Tan, AGI president and CEO, said the buildup forms part of plans to invest in the tourism sector given continuing government efforts in improving the country’s infrastructure.
Tan, at the sidelines of Inside Asian Gaming (IAG) Academy Summit, said the privatization of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport is a game changer that has encouraged the industry and AGI to revise its targets.
The NAIA rehabilitation is undertaken by San Miguel Corp. set to take over its operations on Saturday, 14 September.
Tan said the target 12,000 rooms by 2029 is under review as some of the company’s township projects are designed with the tourism program in mind.
AGI is acknowledged the largest hotel operator with more than 8,000 hotel room keys across 19 operational, home-grown and international hotel properties in the country.
This includes more than 7,000 hotel rooms in 13 operational brands the company created under the Megaworld Hotel and Resorts brand. AGI was recently adjudged the Philippines’ leading hotel group at the 2024 World Travel Awards.
The Newport Resorts World in Pasay, the country’s first integrated resort and casino, has 3,500 rooms that Tan said is probably the highest hotel key count in any single property in the Philippines.
Soon, Tan said, AGI will launch a new, all-suite luxury development called the Newport Mansion featuring garden and pool villas.
He noted that by 2026, the NAIA Terminal 3 will be fully connected to the rest of the property.
