Fnatic Onic extends Philippines’ MLBB Worlds dominance with M6 victory

The Philippines continued its reign at the Mobile Legends Bang Bang World Championships, with Fnatic Onic PH securing the nation’s fifth consecutive title in the M6 Finals held Sunday night in Malaysia.

Since the all-Indonesian final at M1 in 2019, a Philippine team has claimed the championship every year, with Fnatic Onic’s triumph marking the fifth straight victory for the country. The M6 finals were the grand finale of the 2024 MLBB Competitive Season, organized by Moonton, the developer and publisher of the popular mobile multiplayer online battle arena game.

Fnatic Onic stormed through the M6 tournament, clinching the championship with a dominant 4-1 victory over Indonesia’s Team Liquid ID in a best-of-seven series. Remarkably, Fnatic Onic won all its matches throughout the entire tournament, entering the finals with the firm belief that they could defend the Philippines’ title.

A total of 16 teams, including the winner from the eight-team wild card stage held in late November, competed in the season-ending event. Moonton increased the prize pool to USD1 million, up from USD900,000 in M5. Fnatic Onic took home USD320,000 for their championship run.

Moonton, a Chinese company and subsidiary of ByteDance, launched Mobile Legends in 2016, and it has since grown in popularity, especially in Southeast Asia. The game is now a medal sport in the Southeast Asian Games.

Fnatic Onic’s 19-year-old gold laner, Grant Pillas—known by his in-game name Kelra—was named Finals Most Valuable Player. With this honor, Kelra became the first player to win MVP titles in all three major MLBB tournaments: the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL), the Mobile Legends: Southeast Asia Cup (MSC), and the M series World Championship. In addition to the prestigious MVP title, Kelra received a $5,000 cash award.

The rest of Fnatic Onic’s M6 championship roster includes Jann Kirk Solcruz Gutierrez (EXP laner Kirk), Frince Miguel Ramirez (mid laner Super Frince), Borris James Parro (roamer Brusko), and King Cyric Perez (jungler King Kong). Together, the team capped off a historic season with a flawless performance, further cementing the Philippines’ dominance in the Mobile Legends world.
