Meralco’s social responsibility arm, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), has empowered 100 households in Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City, by providing them with direct access to electricity through its Household Electrification Program (HEP). The initiative, which includes the installation of individual metering centers and service entrances, aims to improve living conditions for underserved communities.
For residents like Maria Danica Voloso of Silverio Compound, who had previously been paying higher rates through sub-metering, the new service brings hope for financial relief. “Now, I can save more with my own electricity connection,” she shared. The program not only improves home life but also opens up opportunities for residents to increase productivity and income, with some even starting home-based businesses.
Meralco’s partnership with local government officials, including Parañaque City mayor Eric L. Olivarez, highlights the critical role of electrification in driving community progress. Since 2011, the program has powered over 76,000 low-income homes, enhancing both the quality of life and the economic prospects for thousands of families.
OMF president Jeffrey O. Tarayao emphasized, “By energizing homes like those in Silverio Compound, we empower Filipinos to reach their full potential, benefiting not just families, but entire communities.”
