In a bid to improve the arrival experience for travelers and streamline traffic flow, the private operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) has opened the main arrival curbside at Terminal 1 to all private vehicles. This move marks a significant shift in how passengers are picked up and dropped off, aiming to reduce congestion and enhance comfort for everyone involved.
As part of a broader reconfiguration of the pickup system, passengers can now be greeted directly at the main curbside, which features 14 designated loading bays (A1 to A14). This eliminates the need for arriving passengers to head to the ground floor extension area, offering a more convenient and direct meeting point for those waiting to pick them up.
The change also simplifies operations for various transport services, including private vehicles, ride-hailing services like Grab, and metered taxis, while maintaining access to public transport options. The new system, which began its soft launch on Friday, is expected to be fully operational by Monday, 13 January 2025. This allows time for adjustments based on initial feedback.
NNIC has also introduced an additional pickup area on the outer curbside (B1 to B6), where a dedicated Meet and Greet Area will open on Sunday, 12 January. This area will feature Grab ride-hailing booths for easy bookings, further enhancing convenience for passengers arriving at the terminal.
Other transport services, such as Rent-a-Car, coupon taxis, and yellow metered taxis, will now be relocated to the ground level arrival extension area. This relocation is expected to ease congestion at the curbside, creating a smoother flow for passengers.
“These changes are part of our commitment to delivering a seamless and efficient airport experience,” said NNIC president Ramon S. Ang. “By redesigning the curbside system, we are not only making it easier for passengers to connect with their loved ones, but also addressing the longstanding traffic challenges at Terminal 1.”
Clear signage and airport personnel will guide both passengers and drivers through the new system to ensure a smooth transition. NNIC encourages everyone to follow the updated process for a more efficient and stress-free arrival at the airport.
