The Aboitiz group remains board trustees at the United Nations Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP) and expected to champion the country’s corporate sustainability initiatives on the international stage.
As lead unit of the GCNP Prosperity Pillar, the group commits to rally the private sector towards technology- and innovation-driven initiatives that allow the country’s micro, small, and medium enterprises to become sustainable and resilient entities.
The Prosperity Pillar includes the Aboitiz group, its co-lead SM Investments Corp. and fellow member companies as the Philippine Marketing Association, Nestlé Philippines, Unilever, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., ADEC Innovations, Subic International Management Consultancy, Converge ICT and SGV.
GCNP re-elected Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc.’s first vice president and chief reputation and sustainability officer, Ginggay Hontiveros, to the GCNP board.
Hontiveros is one of three members elected at the 6th general assembly of the GCNP board held last week. She sits alongside re-elected International Care Ministries Foundation director Dennis Montecillo and the newly-elected Bayo Manila CEO Anna Lagon. Vickie Tan of the Ayala Group serves as chairperson of the GCNP board. Their election ensures the continued advance of a sustainable and globally competitive Filipino.
The United Nation’s Global Compact provides a platform for organizations to promote and incorporate the so-called ten principles that adhere to fundamental responsibilities in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
“Our continued support to the UN GCNP aims to inspire and promote collaboration, primarily among business corporations with support from the government, academe and NGOs so that companies may practice the ten principles and a wider scope of programs to address the Philippines’ sustainable development goals and better recover from the impacts of the pandemic,” group president and CEO, Sabin M. Aboitiz, said.
Through its private sector champions initiative, the GCNP pushes its 10-in-10 agenda, or the 10 focus areas to be undertaken in 10 years, from 2021 to 2031.
This acts as blueprint for MSME recovery and resilience in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic involving people, prosperity and planet.
The Aboitiz group leads the so-called prosperity pillar.
“To achieve this goal, we need to provide them with platforms, technologies, capability training, and access to markets and financial institutions to help them during this challenging time,” Hontiveros said.
