Alternergy takes delivery of largest wind turbines in Philippines

Alabat Wind Power Corp., a unit of listed renewable energy innovator Alternergy Holdings Corp., received the first two units of the largest wind turbines to be installed in the Philippines.

The wind turbines, each able to produce 8 megaWatts, were manufactured by Envision Energy. The turbines were delivered to the jetty built by Alternergy on Alabat Island in Quezon Province.

Each turbine has a blade length of 90 meters, equivalent to the size of a football field, contributing to a total wingspan of 182 meters. When fully assembled, the turbines will stand at a towering height of 195 meters—comparable to the RCBC Plaza or Ayala Triangle Garden North buildings in Makati.

The turbines will form part of the 64 MW Alabat Wind Project, the first wind farm in Quezon Province and one of the pioneering wind projects along the Pacific Ocean coastline.

Gerry Magbanua, President of Alternergy and Alabat Wind, underscored the importance of this delivery. “The first shipment of the country’s largest wind turbine marks a significant milestone for the Alabat Wind Project, enabling us to harness Quezon’s rich wind resources to support the region’s energy goals,” Magbanua said.

The project, slated for completion by the end of 2025, is expected to be the first wind farm under the Department of Energy’s second Green Energy Auction Program, which was launched in July 2023.

This development is part of Alternergy’s broader strategy to reach 500 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2026, with the Alabat Wind Project being one of five renewable energy ventures currently underway. The project is poised to play a critical role in helping the Philippines meet its long-term renewable energy targets.
